So, I’ve pretty much been of the opinion that most Miata owners are all just happy-go-lucky souls, enjoying the drive, not in too much of a hurry to get anywhere, easy-going types. Well, one particular asshole shattered that idea on my drive home yesterday.

He was in an old, beat-up, red NA with the top down, and he was acting pretty much like a “squid” on a sportbike, weaving all across three lanes of heavy traffic several times, changing lanes with the smallest gap, just short of splitting lanes. Thankfully he took the exit not too long after passing me.

Anyway, public service announcement, just like all Mustang or BMW owners are not necessarily jerks, all Miata owners are not angels.

How could you make a car this friendly do mean things?!

Yeah but unlike a Mustang, the Miata can handle instead of spinning out of control and plowing down pedestrians.

Miatas have been getting more popular with the stance/drift/hard parker crowd, which is directly related to an increase in assholes.

Yeah but unlike a Mustang, the Miata doesn’t have enough power to spin out of control and plow down pedestrians.

FTFY

Well, this particular car was neither stanced, drift-prepped, or hard-park worthy.

Dam dirty teenager on the next block of the street I live has a miata with ebay flares sticker bombed soft top. And revs the crap out the engine at 7 am or as late as 3 am. Commonly know as “that asshole kid who keeps spilling oil and revving his engine”.

Teenager with no money. They want to ruin the car but don’t have the money to.

This....is not true! In the rain, I can do steamouts all day long. But yeah, in the dry forget it.

Yeah, it takes about 2 months worth of Best Buy paychecks to afford those $400 coilovers!

I wish. What year is your 3? I had an ‘05 3s manual hatch for 7 years - great car.

Both of those other guys are wrong. A Miata doesn’t have an enormous amount of power but if you give it the ol’ lead foot you can get the rear end of a Miata to bust loose, particularly in the rain. You’ve got to really try, though; it isn’t one of those V8-powered solid-axle babies that wants to spin out every time you goose it a little.

‘11 base sedan with the autotragic. Former rental car! The thing is absolutely insane once you put good tires on it. Bulletproof too. It’s actually hiding in the background of my display picture :)

There was a slammed NA Miata revving its engine at the gas station yesterday. He was with his Civic and RSX bros (who were also revving their fartcans). Miatas are not immune.

Nice. I put lightweight Miata 10-spokes on mine and actually took it out to my local track one time. I was slowest car out there, but I had a great time!
